This course is designed to teach you the fundamentals of music production and sound engineering techniques.  Ideal for anyone interested in working as a producer or engineer in any studio environment. 

For total beginners or practitioners looking to fill out their existing knowledge in microphone theory, studio signal routing and the fundamentals of EQ and dynamics. Includes the official Avid Pro Tools 101 + 110 courses.

This course provides the foundation knowledge for our Advanced Studio Music Production and Mastering course. If you also want the additional skills necessary to work as an artist/producer and create beats and music in Logic Pro and Ableton Live, have a look at our Contemporary Music Production course.

DATES & TIMES:  2 eves / week for 6 months: Tuesday & Thursday 6pm-9pm. Next start Tuesday 8th October 2019.

PRICE: £2100 single payment or 6 x instalments of 350.

QUALIFICATION GAINED: SSR Industry Diploma + official Avid Pro Tools 101 + 110 qualification

JASON O' BRYANCourse Tutor

recording artist and sound engineer in London, Jamaica, Barbados, Los Angeles, Mexico, New York and Jakarta.  He was a member of the infamous UK band Dub Pistols (voted best UK live band 2011 by DJ Magazine) for over a decade as producer and bassist and also recorded under various other artist names including Ceasefire (Wall of Sound), Avenue A (R&S) and City Hi-Fi.

Jason has been commissioned to remix many world famous artists including Lily Allen, Scissor Sisters, Moby, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Rob Zombie, Ian Brown, Bush and Natalie Imbruglia and has co-written with many influential artists’ including Busta Rhymes, Terry Hall (The Specials), Horace Andy (Massive Attack), Gregory Issacs. Ashley Slater (Freak Power), Molotov, Rodney P (London Posse) and Lindy Layton (Beats International).

His work is also featured in corporate advertising campaigns for Smirnoff, Baileys and Lexus, numerous major Hollywood movies, including Zoolander, Blade 2, Mystery Men, Bad Company, Driven, Piranha 3D and Y Tu Mama Tambien (directed by Alfonso Cuarón), TV series such as Eastenders, Sex in the City & Malcolm in the Middle and best selling computer games such as Tony Hawks Pro Skater, FIFA ’99, NBA Live, Matt Hoffman Pro BMX and Tiger Woods PGA Tour.

As an educator he has extensive experience delivering music technology and production courses as an ‘Apple Certified Trainer’. Acknowledged by Apple, he was awarded the title of ‘Apple Distinguished Educator’ for his services to music technology education.  A graduate of the prestigious Commercial Music Degree Programme at the University Of Westminster, Giovanni has worked in several bands as a singer and bassist. Soon after graduation he began to develop skills as a producer and engineer working in a number of studio and live settings.


We offer intensive high-level technical training and, through our Graduate Support Programme, mentoring and support for all graduates. Alongside career guidance with a dedicated coordinator with extensive industry connections, there are opportunities to earn while you study at the SSR studios and through work placements.
